A Hawaiian Gift for My Pinoy Friends

Life continues to go well as I settle into Cebu living and develop friendships with the people of Cebu. For all of those who have made me feel welcome and who have touched my heart, here’s a gift of Hawaiian music to brighten up your day.
Honolulu City Lights: I was sad to leave my home in Hawaii, yet knew that there was something more to be discovered in my life. This song reminds me that good-byes are a universal experience and if any of you ever have to leave home, this is kind of a good song to shed a few tears over.
E Pili Mai (Come to Me): a nice Hawaiian love song, again another universal constant about a man in search of his sweetheart.
Kawaipunahele: another love song about the feelings of a man awaiting his love. It’s all in Hawaiian, but I think the melody speaks in all languages. And if you look at the faces of some of the people in this video, you shouldn’t be surprised at the influence of pinoys in Hawaii (they are only about 15% of the population!). And maybe I don’t feel homesick so much because, I find the same beauty of Hawaii here in Cebu within the island and its people.
Sana Lagi: Well, we might all debate about this one, but Jasmine Trias grew up in my hometown in Hawaii, and I consider her a Hawaii product. But we’ll call this one a joint Hawaii – Philippines music joint venture.
About You: This duo goes back both in time and distance. They were quite popular in the 70’s with a popular rock and Hawaiian sound from that time. This is a special song for my special Cebuano friends who have opened up their hearts and songs to me.
Hawaiian Version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow: And a final hope that all of your dreams come true. Cebu has been somewhere over that rainbow for me, and I see my dreams so very close …
Hope I brought a little Hawaiian sunshine to my new found friends on this overcast Cebu day.
