This is very good analysis. I like the way you analyze by comparing each country against US. Thank you for providing such a good info.

I think this is pretty much the case throughout the region if you're talking about very specific retirement communities. There are maybe a handful in the Philippines but mostly targeting the Japanese. Most of the retirees I know are living in independent communities but take advantage of the low cost of labor to obtain assistance for living.

I have yet to hear any development(s) dedicated to retirement living in Indonesia. There were slew of informal news coverage on some developments initially designed for retirees in Bali and Sukabumi. However there is little to go on to validate this.

I have to agree with you wholeheartedly about retiring in Thailand. It is my favorite foreign country, and one of the best places to live in the world. Retirees can live in Thailand relatively cheap. Living ‘locally’ is very inexpensive and may include enjoying Thai street food, drinking local beers and liquors, and patronizing neighborhood nightlife establishments. Foreigners usually find Thais hospitable and warm, especially in some of the towns you mentioned like Khon Kaen and Kanchanaburi. Legal resources are easily accessible for the following concerns: investing in a condo or real estate; starting a business with a Thai partner; marriage advisors or Thailand divorce lawyers ; and visa and immigration issues. The weather is always warm, though sometimes very hot, and the rainy season hardly ever brings about monumental floods like this year. Healthcare is excellent, and male and female retired singles will find Thailand totally fun.

I sympathize with you. I was a single Dad for four kids, 2 teen girls and two boys who were ten years younger. The first ten years of single Dad work was while I was on active duty with the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Diego. It was a constant battle of wills. I lost my share of battles too.

When looking for the best place to retire in Europe I'm sure you wont have a hard time finding one, there is an endless list of places that will surely fit your wanting, it is just a matter of how much are you willing to expend for it, a careful planning and research is needed before jumping into a place you chose.
